From Plant to Preparation
Every part of a plant responds differently to preparation.
Delicate leaves and flowers may need gentle steeping, while roots, bark, berries and resins often require different methods. Understanding these differences helps preserve the character of each botanical and encourages safer, more intentional use.
Gently Steep Leaves & Flowers
Pour hot water over suitable delicate botanicals, cover and steep for the recommended time before straining carefully.
Slowly Simmer Firmer Botanicals
Suitable roots, bark and selected berries are often gently simmered to release their flavour and botanical character.
Create Oils, Baths & Compresses
Completely dried botanicals can be used in carefully researched infused oils, botanical baths and external body-care preparations.
Research Before Preparing
Some botanicals require specialist knowledge, precise quantities or restricted methods and should never be prepared without appropriate guidance.
There is no single preparation method for every plant. Always read the individual botanical guidance, begin with appropriate quantities and respect the precautions that accompany each ingredient.

Frequently Asked Questions
Working with individual botanicals offers greater freedom, but it also requires careful preparation and respect for each plant. These answers will help you choose, prepare and store single botanicals more safely and confidently.
A single botanical is one individual plant ingredient rather than a finished blend or formulated product.
It may be supplied as a dried flower, leaf, root, bark, berry, seed, powder or resin, allowing you to understand and work with the plant on its own.
No. Some botanicals are suitable for culinary use or herbal tea, while others are intended only for external, aromatic or specialist preparations.
Never assume that a botanical is edible. Read the individual product description, preparation guidance and precautions before use.
Delicate leaves and flowers are often prepared as infusions, while suitable roots, bark and firm berries may require gentle simmering as a decoction.
Other botanicals may be intended for infused oils, baths, compresses, tinctures or aromatic use. Follow the method provided for the individual plant.
Yes, suitable botanicals may be combined in carefully considered teas, bath blends, oils and other preparations.
Begin with simple combinations and research each ingredient individually. Check that their uses, quantities and precautions are compatible before blending them.
There is no universal quantity for every botanical. The appropriate amount depends on the plant, plant part, preparation method and intended use.
Follow the individual product guidance and begin with the recommended amount. Specialist herbs should be used only with qualified professional guidance.
Not every botanical is suitable during pregnancy, breastfeeding or alongside medication. Some may affect hormones, blood pressure, blood sugar, clotting or the way medicines are absorbed.
Consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or managing a health condition.
Keep botanicals sealed in their original resealable packaging or transfer them to clean, airtight containers.
Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Label homemade blends clearly and keep culinary botanicals separate from those intended only for external or aromatic use.
