Frequently Asked Questions
Dried flowers can bring natural colour, fragrance and botanical beauty into teas, baths, skin care and creative projects. Because each flower has its own suitable uses and precautions, these answers will help you select, prepare and store your florals with greater confidence.
Depending on the individual flower, dried botanicals may be used in floral teas, bath sachets, foot soaks, facial steams, compresses, infused oils, handmade gifts and decorative botanical projects.
Not every flower is suitable for every preparation. Always review the individual product information before use.
No. A flower should only be consumed when it is correctly identified and clearly sold for culinary or internal preparation.
Do not assume that a flower is edible simply because it is natural. Follow the preparation instructions and precautions provided for the individual botanical.
Suitable flowers are generally covered with freshly boiled water and steeped for the time recommended on the product page or packaging.
The quantity and steeping time vary according to the flower. Delicate botanicals may become bitter or overpowering when too much is used or when steeped for too long.
Many flowers can be added to a cotton or muslin bag for botanical baths and foot soaks. Keeping the flowers inside a secured bag makes them easier to remove and prevents loose petals from entering the drain.
Patch-test where appropriate, use only on unbroken skin and discontinue use if irritation occurs.
Suitable flowers may be used in facial steams, compresses, infused oils and other external preparations. However, natural ingredients can still cause sensitivity or allergic reactions.
Research the individual flower, work hygienically and patch-test the finished preparation before wider use.
Keep dried flowers tightly sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Always handle them with clean, dry utensils and reseal the packaging after use.
Natural colour and fragrance may soften gradually over time. Discard the flowers if you notice moisture, mould, insects or an unusual smell.
Not every botanical is suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and some flowers may interact with medication or existing health conditions.
Review the precautions for each product and consult a qualified healthcare professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, preparing botanicals for a child or unsure whether a flower is appropriate for you.
