Curcuma longa · Dried Rhizome Pieces · Golden Botanical Pantry
Vibrant, golden and wonderfully earthy, Turmeric Root is a familiar spice with a long history in South and Southeast Asian kitchens and botanical traditions.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a flowering plant in the ginger family, known for its bright yellow-orange underground rhizomes. After drying, the rhizomes retain their warm colour and characteristically earthy, gently bitter flavour.
Our Turmeric Root Pieces are supplied as dried, cut rhizome pieces rather than a fine powder. They can be simmered whole for spiced drinks and savoury recipes or ground in small quantities as needed.
At Flowers from my Meadow, we keep it pure and uncomplicated: single-ingredient dried Turmeric Root Pieces, carefully packed for your botanical pantry.
How to Prepare
For a warming turmeric infusion: Add approximately 1 teaspoon of dried Turmeric Root Pieces to 300–350ml water. Gently simmer for 15–20 minutes, then strain. Add citrus or a little honey to taste.
For cooking: Add pieces to curries, soups, broths, rice or simmered spice blends, removing larger pieces before serving.
Precautions
Use in ordinary culinary quantities. Turmeric can stain fabric and surfaces. If pregnant or breastfeeding, taking medication (particularly blood-thinning medication), or managing gallstones, bile duct conditions or liver disease, seek professional advice before using concentrated turmeric preparations. Some concentrated turmeric or curcumin supplements have been associated with liver injury; they are not equivalent to ordinary culinary Turmeric Root Pieces.
