Golden Turmeric & Ginger Cup
A gently simmered golden-spice pantry cup, for its earthy flavour and colour.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon dried turmeric root pieces
- ½ teaspoon dried ginger root pieces
- 1½ cups water, with a little extra if needed while simmering
- A tiny pinch of black pepper, optional, for flavour
- Honey or lemon to taste, optional
How to prepare
- Place the food-grade turmeric root pieces and dried ginger root pieces into a small, stable saucepan with 1½ cups water.
- Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 15–20 minutes, remaining present and carefully adding a little water when needed to prevent boiling dry.
- If desired, add a tiny pinch of black pepper near the end of simmering for flavour.
- Turn off the stove and carefully strain all root pieces into a heat-safe cup.
- Let the drink cool to a comfortable sipping temperature, then add honey or a little lemon, if desired. Enjoy fresh.
Preparation and safety notes
This is a culinary infusion, not a medicine or a treatment for inflammation or joints. Turmeric, ginger and optional black pepper can be unsuitable for some people with spice sensitivities, gallbladder concerns or certain medical conditions. If pregnant, breastfeeding, taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, or managing a medical condition, seek individual professional advice before regular consumption of concentrated botanical infusions. Pepper may also be unsuitable with some medications; its addition is entirely optional. Use a stable saucepan, never leave a burner unattended, prevent the water boiling dry, and take care with hot steam and liquid. Strain thoroughly and allow the drink to cool before sipping. Honey is not suitable for infants younger than 12 months. Do not claim benefits for pain, inflammation, circulation or immunity, or an unverified shelf life for the prepared infusion.
From the Meadow · Original recipe distinction
This source differs from Ginger & Turmeric Warming Tea (Recipe 127): that recipe uses one teaspoon of each dried root, 2 cups water and a 10-minute simmer. This Golden Cup uses one teaspoon turmeric, half a teaspoon ginger, 1½ cups water and a 15–20-minute simmer, with optional pepper. These original formulations are kept as distinct recipes because their root quantities and simmering times differ.
Ingredient botanicals: Turmeric Root Pieces and Ginger Root Pieces.
