Dried Tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum), also known as Holy Basil, is an aromatic botanical recognised for its distinctive green leaves and naturally warm, herbaceous character.

Traditionally prepared as a herbal infusion, the dried herb creates what is commonly known as tulsi tea or holy basil tea — an aromatic botanical cup that can be enjoyed on its own or blended with complementary herbs.

Tulsi has a long history within traditional Indian botanical practices, where the plant has been valued as an important aromatic herb and prepared in teas and other traditional preparations.

The Story Behind Tulsi (Holy Basil)

Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is a fragrant member of the mint family and is known botanically as Ocimum tenuiflorum.

Native to the Indian subcontinent, Tulsi has been cultivated for centuries and holds an important place in traditional Indian botanical culture. Its aromatic leaves and flowering stems are recognised for their distinctive warm, herbaceous and gently spicy character.

At Flowers from my Meadow, our Tulsi is grown, harvested and gently dried by us in South Africa. The leaves and tender aerial parts are carefully handled after harvest to preserve their natural aroma, colour and botanical character.

Once dried, Tulsi becomes a beautifully versatile herbal ingredient that can be prepared as a simple infusion or combined with complementary leaves, flowers and spices in loose-leaf tea blends.

Its naturally aromatic character makes Tulsi easy to recognise — warm, green, herbaceous and softly spicy, with a fragrance that becomes more pronounced when hot water is added.

From living plant to dried leaf, Tulsi carries its unmistakable aromatic character into every cup.
