Ginger & Lemon Warming Cup

A bright ginger-and-lemon pantry infusion for a quiet everyday tea ritual.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon dried ginger root pieces
  • 1 teaspoon dried or fresh lemon peel, washed if fresh
  • 1½ cups water
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional

How to prepare

  1. Add the ginger pieces, lemon peel and 1½ cups water to a clean, stable saucepan.
  2. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes. Do not leave the pan unattended or allow it to boil dry.
  3. Turn off the heat, carefully strain the infusion into a heat-safe cup and discard the steeped botanical pieces.
  4. Allow the drink to cool to a comfortable sipping temperature. Stir in the optional honey, if desired.
  5. Enjoy the citrus-spiced flavour as a culinary beverage, without medicinal claims.

Preparation and safety notes

This is a culinary infusion, not a medicine. Use food-grade botanicals only. Wash fresh lemon peel before use and avoid using fruit with unsuitable surface coatings. If allergic or sensitive to ginger or citrus, do not use. Ginger may be unsuitable for people taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines or managing some medical conditions; seek professional advice, particularly during pregnancy, before regular concentrated use. Handle the stove and hot water carefully and allow the infusion to cool before sipping. Do not give honey to infants younger than 12 months. Prepare fresh, and do not claim a tested shelf life for leftovers. No treatment, detoxification, pain-relief or immunity claims are made.

From the Meadow

Inspired by our Ginger Root Pieces archival recipe. Unlike the Ginger & Cardamom Warming Infusion, this simple cup features dried or fresh lemon peel rather than cardamom and cinnamon.
